It is even possible to observe the expenditure of energy that a newborn[2] decides to exert to reach the point of crying, and crying loudly, louder and louder, with a power of voice that surprises the adult, and is audible even at a significant distance.
But crying and screaming will not make them a stronger adult: on the contrary, more easily manipulatable by those who will allow them that saving of energy which smiling requires. Indifference to crying makes the crying cease and, with it, the interest in the world.
